Bretton Woods Ski camp

-posting the email that Coach Kurry sent out.  Make sure you read it carefully.
We will be stopping at Bear Notch for skiing on the way to camp.  If ski conditions require us to change plans, we will send out emails and post here.

Karin's email:
Ok - here are the details and packing list for Bretton Woods.

This is a lot of information but it is all really important - please read through it carefully.  If you show up unprepared, you have no excuse.

We will be departing from the parking lot behind the high school at 8:30 or as close to it as possible.  I have a key to the shed if you need to get anything out of it.

Please pack a bag lunch for Thursday as we will not get lunch at AMC on Thursday.  The plan is to drive to Bear Notch and ski before lunch (weather and conditions permitting.)

Return will be on Sunday, after a morning ski and lunch at the Highland Center.  Should be back at the High school by 4:00 ish.

Here is who I have driving:
Karin Kurry
John Beliveau
Chris Morin
Jeff Walker
Merri Bernier
Pat Connolly
Matt Camuso

Pack judiciously - we will be tight, so make sure you pack the right things. Outside of your ski clothes you need very little else except some comfy after ski clothes and pjs.  We will not be leaving the AMC lodge after skiing, so a pair of sweats and a couple of long sleeve t-shirts will be plenty.

What you must bring:

1. Skis, boots and poles for both skate and classic. It sounds obvious but someone always forgets something.
2. Clothes to layer. For instance long underwear and ski pants or tights. Long sleeve shirts with a light jacket over top. Please try to avoid cotton!!!! It just gets wet and cold.
Go with polyester, polypropylene, capilene, wool.
3. Gloves and mittens, and lobster gloves if you have them. Bring a few pairs of glove liners because they will get wet and you'll want to rotate wet for dry.
4. A few hats. They get wet too. Hats should be snug and cover your ears but not sag in your face when you get sweaty.
5. A big warm coat and warm boots &/or hiking boots for hikes in the snow.
6. Thin and thick socks, again try to avoid cotton.
7. Stuff to run in. Sneakers. Stuff to do Insanity in like shorts.
8. Blister stuff. Second skin works well. Moleskin, bandaids. Also Dermatone or some sort of lip and face protectant in the event it is really cold or wet.
9. Hand warmers and foot warmers. These are good stocking stuffers parents!
10. A cork and scraper if you have one.
11. Water bottle and holder. You can even ski with a small backpack. You'll want to have water and some snacks with you at all times. Cliff Bars or something like that, that
you can eat on the trail.
12. Time piece- watch or cellphone.  Heart rate monitors if you have one.
 12. Slippers so you aren't running around Highland Center in socks

13.  Personal toiletries*
*If you are taking Meds for any reason, you must let a chaperone or a coach know.

**Highland Center provides all bedding and towels.

I know a small pack was mentioned above - it is a good idea to have something(like one of those string bags) to throw a change of socks, hat and gloves in when we go down to the Nordic Center.  The Mount Washington Nordic center is fussy about us having too much gear in their lodge, which is why we will return to Highland Center each day for lunch and a change of clothes if necessary.

You may bring a box of granola type bars, energy bars or snacks to supplement meals.  Please do not bring junk food, rather something that has some healthy attributes.

I would like to ask parents to consider baking cookies or bars to supplement our lunch and for evening movies.  There will be 37 of us in total.  Please email me if you are able to send some baked goods along.   Please pack them into individual portions.

Money:  You only need money for two things - if you want to buy something from the AMC Center(they have a limited assortment of bars and candy) and I will be asking everyone to chip in for gratuities on the last day.  Gratuities were not figured into your original price.  We traditionally tip the kitchen/wait staff and the housekeeping staff.

Phones:  Phones are to be used only for emergencies and to contact parents.  We are aware that kids will have phones with them, however we would like to discourage the use of phones for entertainment.  This is a trip to prepare for the upcoming ski season and to get to know your team, if you are buried on Facebook on your phone, you are not interacting with your team.

Illness:  First of all - lets hope not, but in the event of illness; parents will be notified immediately and asked to come and get their child from the Highland Center.  It is imperative that we have a number that you can be reached at in this event.  I am assuming the numbers you provided me with on the permission form are the best ones to reach you.  If anything has changed, like you have decided to take a quick trip to Vegas while your son/daughter is skiing - please email me right away and let me know.

I think that pretty much covers it - if you have questions - email me or text me or call me:)  Cell number is 207-332-0405  Bear in mind that once there cell phone coverage is spotty.  You can always leave messages with Highland Center.  Our contact there is Heather Hesse.

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday.  See you all on Thursday - 8:30 at the high school in back.
