Muddy Hill Bounding

Today we had a great 1st hill-bounding session. Because of the mud, it was difficult to really explode off the ground without slipping, which made it hard to get in a solid workout. We will repeat this next week, but maybe move it to the Field Rd. hill coming up from the river, so we have better grip. The workout we did was taken from Andy Newell's new NENSA dryland training video. I don't have to tell you that Newell is the top male sprinter on the US ski team (Look a little later for my "better know a skier" post today). Here is an article from the Sun Valley Ski Team (SVSEF) coach describing the different bounds that we did today. SVSEF trains some of the top pro (including US Olympic team members), amateur, and junior skier in the country. Between now and next week practice the movements so you'll be prepared to get whipped next week.

Here is a video with the bounding starting at 3:15. The movement is not quite as fluid as Andy Newell, but he's doing everything we did today, and more. The "skate hop with balance" is what I called (after Newell) the V2 bound.
