Sassi Memorial

The Sassi Memorial race is this Saturday at Black Mountain in Rumford. This race is the major opportunity for HS skiers from all over the state to compete against each other (the State Championships are divided into Class A, B, and C and are held at different venues). The Black Mountain ski trails and the Chisolm Ski Club that direct the race are both world class  It is a very fun race for parents because you can watch your child ski beneath you while standing on the bridge and, if it's miserably cold, go back into the beautiful lodge and finish your hot cocoa. Or you can snap into your skis and watch out on the course. The atmosphere is very energetic. Lots of screaming kids and banging cowbells (call Mrs. Lesser and buy your cowbell!!!).

Sassi is also the qualifier for the Maine J2 team, which will compete against other New England and NY teams at the J2 festival in Gunstock NH. J2 is any skier born in 1995 or 1996. More information on the J2 team is here. All J2 skiers that think they may qualify need to decide if they want to join the J2 team BEFORE Sassi because you need to commit at Sassi with a check.

The boys race starts at 10AM and will be a 15s interval start. The girls race starts at Noon and will be a 15s interval start. Both races are Classical.
